Additional information:

Ahead of the war, Jesse worked as a laborer for Manufacturer's Heat and Light Company. He left from Waynesburg in September 1917, to train first at Camp Sherman, Ohio, and then at Camp Sheridan, Alabama. On 15 June 1918, Jesse sailed with his company for Europe, aboard the Leviathan, departing from Hoboken, New Jersey.
